Performance New Composers The main point of the programme accompanying the New Artists exhibition took place on the afternoon of the 24th of April at 4 p.m. It was announced as “A creative meeting with artists, musicians, cinematographers and writers” (творческая встреча с художниками, музыкантами, кинематографистами, литераторами). (E-E) Evgenij Kozlov’s pictures document the stage performance of New Composers Valery Alakhov (Валерий Алахов) and Igor Verichev (Игорь Веричев) and of some of their friends: Alexey Kushnarenko (Алексей Кушнаренко), Viktor Krasnikov (Виктор Красиков), Lena Bogdanova (Nika Богданова – Ника), and Igor Smirnov (Sten) (Игорь Смирнов – Стен). Also documented are Yuris Lesnik (Юрис Лесник), Timur Novikov, Marina "Dlinnaya" and Evgenij Kozlov himself.
The first electronic music festival in the USSR was held in 1988 in Vilnius. Among the other projects there was a side project of the New Composers called Science Fiction Club which later became widely developed and gave impetus to the project of the same name officially working from 1988 to 1992 in the Star Hall, Planetarium (See: (E‑E) Evgenij Kozlov: About the Leningrad Art and Music Scene >>). Space costumes for the performance at the festival were kindly provided by the Théâtre Licedei. The program of the performance consisted of an original New Composers’ soundtrack and an impromptu dance performance, which included elements of body movements typical for the Leningrad underground scene of the 80s. This performance was repeated the same year at the New Artists exhibition at the House of Culture of the Sverdlov Leningrad Machine-tool Production Association (LSPO), Leningrad.
On stage, a large screen was set up for a 16 mm film projector. Pictures BO54 and BO55 show kostya goldtv (Kostya Mitenev) checking the position of the film between the reels and the machine. In his private message from 3 March, 2020, Mitenev explained that he showed his film “Сторонники Ольфа” (Storonniki Ol’fa, The Followers of Olf), Mitenev’s co-production with Nekrorealist Evgeny Kondratev (Debil) and New Artist Inal Savchenkov. The film, lasting 9 minutes, is from 1987 (with a digital copy in the New York archive of independent cinema). Other participants were Oleg Kotelnikov, Alexander Ovchinnikov, Oleg Maslov, Anastasia Mikhailovskaia, Olga Sergeeva, Kamentskaia and members of the Club 81 (Mitia Volchek, Arkadiy Dragomoshenko), plus some others whose names were lost:
Also according to kostya goldtv, film-maker and artist Evgeny Yufit showed his experimental short films “Санитары-оборотни” (Sanitary-oborotni, Werewolf Orderlies, “Mzhalalafilm” – Yufit’s studio –, 1984) and "Лесорубы" (Woodcutter, Mzhalalafilm,1985). Yufit, the founder of “Necrorealism” is mentioned in the lineup of artists both in the poster and in Novikov’s list, but not in the booklet. Apparently, he did not show his paintings at the exhibition, but presented only his films.
